Your Powerful Heart & Brain Connection

February reminds me of Red Hearts.

There is Valentine’s Day and the stores and media remind us of that with lovely pictures.

The American Heart & Stroke Association chose that month for their Wear Red Day and Go Red for Women event, an important annual fundraiser to increase awareness, improve prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke.

Interestingly, we all feel something when we see a red heart in pictures, red chocolate hearts, ruby and garnet red heart jewelry, or heart décor.

There is a strong connection between the heart and the mind. The heart is so powerful and research actually indicates that the heart controls the brain much more than we think. It’s not just a muscle pumping blood to all the organs of the body.

The heart sees what is invisible to the eye. The heart is where the deep feelings of love, excitement and gratitude originate.

The HeartMath Institute shares that our thoughts and emotions affect the heart’s magnetic field, which energetically affects those in our environment whether or not we are conscious of it.

The heart has been considered the source of emotion, courage and wisdom for centuries. The HeartMath Institute Research Center has explored the physiological mechanisms by which the heart and brain communicate and how the activity of the heart influences our perceptions, emotions, intuition and health.

According to McCraty from the HeartMath Research Center, “New research shows the human heart is much more than an efficient pump that sustains life. Research suggests the heart also is an access point to a source of wisdom and intelligence that we can call upon to live our lives with more balance, greater creativity and enhanced intuitive capacities.

All of these are important for increasing personal effectiveness, improving health and relationships and achieving greater fulfillment.” (Science of Heart, 2016).

Our Wellbeing

Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and perception of the environment, situations, and people strongly affect our body – and our heart. Traditionally, heart health has focused on eating better or exercising. Today, we know we need to increase our awareness and manage our mind to positively impact the health of our heart.

Practices like daily gratitude – feeling grateful for even the smallest things and regular self-awareness checks to manage the negative mind chatter, are incredibly powerful.

I teach my client’s a Check-in & Clearing technique to increase their awareness and clear the negative thoughts and feelings they are having. Our thoughts create tomorrow’s reality and we CAN change our results by managing our thoughts and self-talk.

Also, hugely important for our heart health is our daily work. Is it aligned with our unique skills, talents, and what we enjoy doing? If we are expressing our unique skills and do what we love, we increase our energy, wellbeing and joy.

During my new 30-day transformation, “Mindset Secrets of Performers,” we go through a deep process to discover your unique skills, talents and what you truly love to do and are good at. Plus your why.
